Dr. Tapendu K. Basu, a physician, is a member of the Academy of American Poets, Maryland Society for History and Culture, and Maryland Writers' Association. For five years, he edited Pen In Hand, MWA's biannual literary magazine. His publications include Hoofbeats, A Song of You: A Poetic History of the United States; Satiric Verses; August 29: How Kabir H. Jain Became a Deity; Epic Mahabharata: A Twenty-first Century Retelling; The Author and the Emperor; Murder at the Fountain and other Crimes, and a collection of plays The Raven's Nest.

In 2017, The Nisha Trilogy was filmed as Tadanto, a Bengali movie, in Tollywood, Kolkata. Three of his recent books, translated in Bangla, have been published by Rritobak Publishers in 2026.

He has recently completed another novel, Escape to Mars, which narrates a couple's life on Earth, and reflects on their life on Mars Colony.

Dr. Tapendu K. Basu, born in India and now a US citizen, has written using a pseudonym, Gandharva raja.
